Anna Kindy, MLA for North Island, has sent a letter to the Minister of Fisheries expressing significant concern regarding the proposed changes to the Salmon Allocation Policy, and supporting the principle that salmon are a public resource to be managed for the benefit of all Canadians. Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has issued statements on their website affirming that “Pacific salmon will remain a shared public resource managed by the Government of Canada on behalf of all Canadians…” and that a revised SAP “…will not extinguish any sector’s access to the resource.” This is a positive development, but questions and concerns remain.
