The future of the PUBLIC fishery is at risk. Commercial fishing and BC First Nations groups are pushing Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to replace the current, fair and reliable Salmon Allocation Policy (SAP) that has been in place since 1999 with a rigid new percentage-based model that would restrict public fishery access and opportunities.
If you care about fishing, your community, and your rights make your voice heard today!
call or send an email explaining:
The public salmon fishery has personal significance for YOU – whether cultural, economic, community based, or related to family traditions.
You support revising the SAP to accommodate the addition of ONLY Treaty based, court defined First Nations commercial fisheries, and that NO other changes should be made or are necessary.
Maintaining the public’s priority access to Chinook and Coho is ESSENTIAL to ensuring predictable, reliable fishing opportunities into the future.
Public priority access for Chinook and Coho is ESSENTIAL to sustain jobs, economic activity, and the cultural values that the public fishery delivers to Canadians.
Priority access has been a successful and reliable management tool for more than 25 years, supporting sustainable fisheries and stable opportunities for anglers and the businesses that rely on them.
Priority access benefits ALL British Columbians including the individuals, communities, and local economies that most directly depend on and value the cultural, social, economic contributions the public fishery provides.
That YOUR rights and opportunities matter, too.
YOUR FEEDBACK IS IMPORTANT. SO IS KEEPING YOUR MESSAGE SHORT, CLEAR, AND RESPECTFUL.
